As mechanisms\nmeasuring the results of studies on exhibitions in numeric terms have not been\ndeveloped in Turkey; it is unfortunately impossible for us to know how\nexhibitions contribute to country economy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Our aim for\ngiving the numerical comparison of Turkish and German exhibitions is to\nhighlight the quality and importance of the exhibitions organized in a country,\nnot their numbers. Moreover; as we mentioned when discussing the problems in\nexhibitions in our country, the huge numbers of exhibitions organized can be a\nproblem hindering the development of the country exhibition organizations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The local\nbazaars which are also called \u201cpanay\u0131r\u201d (street fair) has a huge importance in\nTurkish economic life, dates a long time back. The word \u201cpanay\u0131r\u201d comes from\nGreek work \u201cPenegyris\u201d (community\u2019s gathering in a place) and its meaning is\nexplained as \u201ca bazaar held in a specific place in a specific time\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Its remains are\nencountered in Troy, Kalkam\u0131\u015f, \u00c7atalh\u00f6y\u00fck in Anatolia where the first\nresidential areas of the world were established. Kayseri was mentioned even in\ntablets of Assyrians as an important commerce, storehouse and fair place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Using\nexhibitions as an advertisement tool by corporations and countries was made by\nunplanned and unscheduled fairs (panay\u0131r) in Turkey until 1923.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It is impossible\nto say that mentioned fairs held were functional enough. These unscheduled\norganizations of fairs continued until \u0130zmir Economic Congress. On said organization\nMustafa Kemal Atat\u00fcrk commented \u201cEconomy Congress is well organized. Repeat\nthis every year. This kind of exhibitions contribute to the development of our\neconomy\u201d and highlighted the importance he gave to this issue. Local and\nforeign institutions attended this fair.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
For 9 September\nfair organized in the next year; Mustafa Kemal Atat\u00fcrk conveyed his opinions\nvia telegraph.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
After these\norganizations held in \u0130zmir; exhibitions started to be organized in other\ncities of Turkey. In these exhibitions economic and commercial goals were\nthought together with any kind of amusement; however functional features on\nexpertise were not considered well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
With the first\n\u0130zmir International Exhibition held in 20th August 1936, the fair gained its\ninternational identity and both local and foreign institutions attended.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u0130zmir\nInternational Exhibition became a member of International Fairs Union (UFI) in\n1946.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This advancement\nstarted exhibition sector in Turkey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Exhibition Sector in Turkey<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Serious paces\nstarted to be made on exhibition sector since 1960s and the numbers of both\nvisitors and participant in the exhibitions were increased.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Between the\nyears 1964 and 1973; national fairs were held in Samsun, Bursa, Bal\u0131kesir,\nKayseri, Trabzon, Erzurum, Tatvan, Konya, Kocaeli and Gaziantep.<\/p>\n\n\n\n When we reached\n1980s; the exhibition sector stepped a little further and the exhibitions\nbecame a prerequisite part of export and import relations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The exhibition\nsector made a huge progress, especially in 1990\u2019s; the number of fairs and\norganization firms founded increased significantly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Today; many\nstudies are made on the exhibition area and the exhibitions held has an\nexpertise fair quality. Expertise fairs bring purchasers and sales people\ndirectly related to the sector together.
